Receiver marked D28291-17, charging handle marked D35382 6 SA, Bolt marked 6528287-SA, B-2-0 Due to hostilities in the Korean peninsula in 1950, to meet the sudden demand, plans were formulated in early 1951 to put the M1C rifles back into production Springfield Armory records indicate that a total of 4,796 M1C rifles were manufactured in the 1951-1953 period, many if not all were made using some of the 18,000-19,000 M1C receivers remaining in storage at the Armory since 1945 Most M1Cs used in conflict were likely WWII production with the exception of barrels and minor parts Griffin & Howe receiver brackets either WWII or 1950s often had mismatched serial numbers or were unnumbered By 1953 the M1D was the primary sniper rifle, the M1C rifles were rebuilt, and many were sent to ostensibly friendly nations under various military aid programs Most of these rifles were produced by converting standard M1 Garand rifles into a M1D configuration by installing a special M1D Sniper barrel as manufactured at Springfield Armory These barrels were manufactured from approximately Jan 1952 to Feb 1953 with the conversion done by Springfield Armory The rifle receiver originally produced in mid WWII, is marked: "U.S. RIFLE/CAL 30 M1/SPRINGFIELD ARMORY" over the serial number Correct sling Butt plate has place for cleaning kit Includes complete cleaning kit Serial number 4201970XX SOLD
