Keith Casteel is a legendary name in contemporary rifle making. His familiar “Fancy Decorated” rifles are featured in the book Full Circle which is included with this sale.
Keith has made few double barrel side by side shotguns, perhaps as few as three. The beauty of this example can be found in its utilitarian simplicity.
The stock is beautiful bold curly maple, mounted with steel furniture. The stock has a 13 ½“ LOP with 1 3/8” DOC and the DOH is 3 ¼ in.  30 in. heavy barrels are mounted. The bores are bright and choked to Extra Full for long range work. The barrels are noticeably heavier than those found on modern shotguns bringing the total weight to 7.1 lbs. The barrels and tang are nicely engraved with a Gold Band inlay separating the two.  An engraved silver plate having the initials MGC is mounted on the top of the wrist. The custom-made butt plate is steel in keeping with the practical design theme of the gun. The cheek rest has a pair of pheasants engraved in steel and inlayed into the wood. This simple inlay clearly shows Keith’s artistic talent. The trigger guard mounts a sling loop at the rear, engraving on the bow and the classic acorn design at the front.  The fore-end tip / ramrod guide is beautifully shaped and engraved. The brass tipped ram rod is made of straight grain walnut for durability. The middle ram rod pipe has the front sling bow mounted. Both the left, and right side locks are mirror image of each other. They would look familiar and be the envy of a gunsmith 200 years ago.
Included in this sale are the following pictured accessories: Leather cheek-rest, Leather lock/action cover, Shot & Powder measure horns, and a Pick.
This Double Barrel shot gun is a magnificent example of the gunmakers art and would complement many collections.
.20 Gage with 30” barrels. Serial Number: 269.  ANTIQUE, (F/L) No FFL or C&R Required.
