1886 .45-90 ROUND BARREL FULL MAGAZINE RIFLE, ONE OF THE LAST OF THE CASE COLORED RECEIVER MODELS, #121XXX, MADE 1900. To verify this rifle I called the Cody Museum and received a call-in sheet showing that this rifle was manufactured as a .45-90 with round barrel and plain trigger. It was received in the warehouse May 15, 1900 and shipped from the warehouse on October 25, 1900. Interesting that it sat in the warehouse for five months before being shipped- possibly because by 1900 most hunters were buying smokeless caliber Model 1894s or Model 1895s and the demand for .45-90s was waning. At serial number 122,000 Winchester began bluing receivers on Model 1886s which puts this one as one of the last of the case colored rifles. This receiver on this rifle shows some nice light case color on the rear third of the right side. There is also some good color on the lower tang and in the protected areas around the trigger etc. There is excellent deep blue on the bolt. The receiver is also fitted with a Lyman 21 "Climbin' Lyman" sight along with a flat top buckhorn rear sight and a Lyman small blade with ivory bead front sight. The barrel and magazine tube show fine blue with minor age/thinning on the barrel All excellent markings and receiver screws. Excellent stock and forend with tight wood to metal fit. and a BRIGHT EXCELLENT BORE. Nice 122 year old '86 in a great caliber.
