Description:
SOLD Beautiful, RARE condition, and RARE model, Stevens "Walnut Hill" single shot 22.
This Stevens #418, which was their "Junior" sized "Walnut Hill" target rifle. It is built around a somewhat thicker version of the 1915 Favorite action, with slightly higher side walls and a pistol grip lower tang. The barrels were selected for accuracy, drilled and tapped for scope sights.
They were the high water mark of the Stevens boys' rifles. Few kids that age were into "serious" target shooting. Or their parents couldn't afford the $18.00 price in the Depression. It was only available during the worst part of the economic downturn, 1932-1940.
The 418 has a Lyman 144 windage adjustable sight with a Partridge front sight. The Lyman 144 sight was made specifically for the Stevens 417 and 418. They typically sell for $300-$400+ when you can find them.
Also included is a 4 power vintage Wollensak “ranger” rifle scope. This scope, that was introduced in 1935, intended for rim fire and small center fire rifles. The black enamel coating on the brass tube is in excellent condition.  Mechanical condition of the scope is excellent, including the micrometer adjustments. The lenses are clear, and the crosshairs, are sharp and well defined.
Case colors are beautiful, all other finishes are original, and unmolested.
This is also a take down model, and is designed to fire from the half cock position, assumed automatically when the action is worked. The full cock position is the safety, and cannot be fired from there. (very stiff spring).
$75.00 insured shipping to your FFL or C&R.
