Here we present a C&R Turkish Model 1903 Military Rifle made in Berlin, Germany circa 1908 by Mauser with a production run between 1903 and 1910, and upgraded circa 1935. The Mauser Model 1903, also known as the Ottoman Mauser, was a Gewehr 98 pattern bolt action rifle designed for the Ottoman Army. They were produced by Mauser in Germany. After the adoption of this rifle, 200,000 were delivered before 1905. Also, there were 406 Marine-Gewehre delivered to the Ottoman Navy in 1904 and 7,617 to the Gendarmerie in Ottoman Macedonia. 1,100 more, modified to fire spitzer bullets and sometimes known as M1910, were ordered in 1910. The Ottoman customs also received some.
Many of the Turkish rifles were lumped together into a group called the Model of 1938, which wasn’t a single model, but rather a common set of features. The designation isn’t even one that the Turks used, but rather is a designation that U.S. importers used to describe these rifles.
The overall condition is good. Robust action. bright bore. This example sports a solid stock with and average amount of handling/storage wear (some chipping at the heel). A thin crack runs through the middle of the hand guard (movement when pressure is applied). Good leather sling. Legible markings. Visible numbers match.
