Description:
FINE, RARE, CASED MASS. ARMS Pocket Model ADAMS PATENT Percussion Revolver

1 of Only 100 Manufactured in This Configuration!

Here we present an antique Massachusetts Arms Co. Pocket Model Adams Patent Revolver, manufactured circa 1857-61. In 1857 Massachusetts Arms entered into an agreement to provide 500 of the belt-sized (.36 caliber), Beaumont-Adams Patent revolvers to the US Ordnance Department. At the same time, Massachusetts Arms developed and produced a scaled down, .31 caliber pocket variant of the belt revolver. This revolver was marketed to the civilian market, as a more robust and safer alternative to the Colt Model 1849 Pocket revolver. The Adams patent guns were easier to get into action quickly due to their self-cocking, double action lock work, and also offered a frame mounted sliding safety on the right side of the revolver. Both of these features made the Mass Arms revolver more suited to carry in a trouser or coat pocket. Much like the larger belt revolver, the pocket revolver was a 5 shot percussion pistol with the traditional hump-backed Adams style checkered walnut grip.

About 4,500 were made of the pocket model altogether, the vast majority of them with 3 ¼-inch octagonal barrel. Only 200 were made with 4 ¼-inch barrels split evenly between octagonal and round. This is an example of the latter. This revolver comes in a factory case that includes an Eley cap tin marked for "ADAMS PATENT REVOLVERS," a Mass. Arms Co. pocket powder flask embossed with a hand with a pistol with a background of crossed flags, and a dual bullet mold.

The overall condition is fine. The action functions properly with the exception of the trigger spring, which requires the manual reset of the trigger. The bore is in great shape. The checkering on the grips remains sharp. The case and accessories are in fine condition. A very rare and fine American made revolver for your collection.
