Description:
43 Reformado rifle with a 35 inch barrel with bright and lightly frosted bore with strong rifling. This type 2 "New Model Rifle" was produced for a foreign contract and is very simular to a Spanish Third Contract. The barrel retains most of the blue with loss due to overall speckles and a few spots of old oxidation, a small spot of light pitting and some light handling marks around the muzzle. There is some moderate oxidation on the toe and heel of the buttplate and the balance of metal surfaces are a dull gray patina with a couple areas toning to a plumb-brown patina with some overall speckling of light oxidation staining and trace case-hardening colors in the protected areas of the frame. The left breech flat is marked with a fleur-de-lis, There are caduceus on the left side of the hammer and the left side of the frame appears to be marked with a raised eight point star while there is a crown on each of the barrel bands. The three line Remington tang address is mostly clear with the final "1874" date softened but legible. The Black Walnut Stock and forearm are very good with a small but moderate dent on the right side above the sling swivel. The action is strong and crisp.
