PENDING SALE
This is a Rare Adams 25 bore .571 caliber 5 shot D.A. percussion carbine. This is a 23 ¼” Damascus barrel lightly engraved with a brass silver plated hammer cover. It is assembly or serial number 62 and is marked No. 28 on the bottom frame forward the cylinder. The mechanical function is very good crisp and tight. It has a bright and shiny bore with strong rifling and sights for 100 200 and 300 yards. This retains about 40% original brown stripe barrel finish. The frame retains only small traces of original finish. The collector whom I purchased this from said when he got it the wrist was broken so he had a professional English Stock Maker recreate the correct stock with the correct checkering and oil finish. It is an amazing fit and finish. Interesting note that a blockade-runner named Salvor was captured in the Gulf of Mexico headed for Tampa Bay. Listed in the appraisal of the cargo of the ship were four English revolving rifles. The makes were not listed but were Adams or Tranter revolving rifles. If one ship was found with English revolving rifles, it seems quite possible that other possible purchases of revolving rifles were maybe delivered to the Southern Confederacy during the course of the war. At least one example of an Adams revolving rifle is in the collection of the South Carolina Historical Society in Charleston. It has provenance to having seen use during the Civil War with a local Confederate solider.
