Description: Rare Colt Factory Engraved 1st generation Single Action Army chambered in .45 colt, serial number 55723 was manufactured in 1880. The Engraving is certainly indicative of the Colt Master engraver Cuno Helfricht. It has a beautiful tight scroll with 90% coverage. All numbers on the bottom of the grip, frame, trigger guard, and cylinder are matching. The accompanying factory letter states it has Pearl stocks, although these appear to be more modern with a crack on the left side. The letter states it has a nickel finish but at some point it was subsequently upgraded to a full silver plate finish. The letter does not indicate a barrel length but, this gun was originally a 7.5" and was shortened to its current length of 5" and was fitted with a new sight made with a coin dated 1877. There is no current documentation to suggest a factory upgrade, but the application is indicative of professional or factory work. Overall excellent condition as embellished and mechanically strong with a decent bore. There are so few pre 1900 black powder engraved guns that exist in any condition, it makes this gun a wonderful addition to the Colt collector. .45 Long Colt SOLD Antique: Yes Metal Condition: Overall excellent condition Bore Condition: Decent bore Barrels: 5 Butt Pad: "Letter states Pearl stocks, although these appear to be more modern Weight: 2 lb 5 oz Sights: Frame notch rear sight Item Location: Fort Worth, TX |
