Description:
I have owned this SecNav for over a decade. Time to pass it on to another garand collector. I bought it from th newphew of the Sailor that won it. Mr. Jim Adell researched the serial number for me and sent me a letter verifying that it is a Navy gun. Jim has the serial numbers. He confirmed that it is a Navy Trophy rifle. His letter goes on to mention that the Marines overhauled it before the Navy took posession of the rifle.
The rifle it self is a HRA manufactured garand. The receiver does have some pitting under the parkerizing in the heel area. This should be visible in the pics. The bolt is marked HRA, the op-rod is marked NM, HRA marked on the triggerhousing. The barrel is SA 50, TE is 4 MW isunder 3. Those measurments are well with in service grade spec and the rifle besides being a hard to find collectible should make a great shooter. It's been a safe queen for me. The stock is very shiney. I'm not sure ecactly what they put on it but is some kind of varnish I believe.
I have a letter from the member of the US Navy marksmanhip Team to his nephew rearding this rifle. I also have a letter from Jim Adell verifying the rifle US Navy Trophy rifle and a copy of serial nu,mbers in navy inventory from him. I was able to find some other documents regarding Mr. Wallaces's scores from shooting on the rifle team. All of these documents are included.
This isthe only SecNavy Trophy rifle that I have owned and I am sure its the only one that I will ever own. Not many of these have been released to the civial public marked.
I recently saw on Gun another Secnav. Thats one sold for more than $5000.00 That was one of the things that motived me to pass this one along now. I assumed this would sell rather quickly since I believe I priced it to sell.
