LATE 1700’S EARLY 1800’S. 36” o/a with 30” unmarked blade. Brass hilt with folding outer guard. Leather grip wrap and brass retaining wire. Leather scabbard with brass throat and drag. Identical sword illustrated in M. Bottet’s book ARME BLANCHE, planche III, figure 2 and described on page 113. Very good and original overall with the exception of the grip wrap which has been expertly redone. The few of these we have seen were without scabbards which makes this one quite desirable. Probably intended for naval and marine use and may date earlier-possibly to the late American Revolutionary War. SOLD |
