Description:
This is a very nice fully-restored Ithaca Lefever Arms Nitro Special 12 gauge double barrel shotgun. This Lefever Nitro Special has had the receiver refinished in case colors and the barrels, triggerguard, and forearm hardware have been reblued. The original pistol-grip style stock set has been refinished with refreshed and sharp hand-cut checkered panels on the wrist and forearm and fit with a new black plastic buttplate. These newer finishes are in great condition with lots of nice color showing on the receiver and the bluing showing a nice glossy polish. This Nitro Special has double trigger, lifters, a tang-mounted safety, and 30" inch barrels with a ribbed solid rib. The barrels have clean and smooth bores but there is a small dent in the left barrel that should have no effect on the guns performance. The barrels are choked Full and Full and it has 2.75" inch chambers. The length of pull is 14.25" inches to the end of the buttplate on this double. This vintage gun has a lot of drop typical of guns from this period with 1.75" inches at the comb and 2 & 7/8ths" inches at the heel. The action on this Lefever locks up rock solid with no play and are 100% on-face. The mechanics are in perfect working order, as are the controls. This Lefever should function flawlessly for another 100 years. If you have been looking for a classic American-made double to take afield that is classy but affordable this Ithaca Lefever Nitro Special would be a great choice.
