Description: General Specs: Linsley Bros, Year 1979, 12 Gauge, 6lbs 8oz, Chokes IC/IM, LOP 14 7/8", DAH 2 1/8", DAC 1 9/16" Serial Number: 89839 The firm of Linsley Bothers is a well known gun maker based in the City of Leeds, West Yorkshire, England. Linsley Brothers was built on an earlier company founded by a one William Calvert in 1780, George Linsley bought the firm in the 18th century and went on to earn a reputation for building fine upland guns. Linsley Brothers moved from their Leeds establishment in 1993 to a new facility in Harrogate, West Yorkshire. This example is British proof marked Birmingham 1979, it has a 26 1/2" barrel choked IC/IM and a mirror bore. The action is case colored and showing gentle fading, the boxlock is engraved on both sides with upland game and fine scroll borders. The scrollwork continues onto the balls, trigger guard and tangs. The base plate is blued with scroll while the trigger guard blue is going to a plum patina, the lower tang has a pleasant polished metal effect. The short splinter fore end has an Anson type release and checkering with fine diamonds. The English Walnut straight stock is in excellent shape showing some fancy grain that glows under its hand rubbed finish, it is fitted with a brand new leather cover pad. Mechanically the gun is in excellent shape with a tight hinge and vault like lock up with the lever right of center. An automatic safety and strong and well timed ejectors complete the package. The gun remains in British proof with the original 2 ½” chambers. This gun is perfectly balanced on pin and weighing six and one half pounds it is an ideal upland gun that packs a punch. Light to carry, quick to the shoulder and easy to swing, to paraphrase the old maxim, it carries like a twenty but it actually does hit like a twelve! The British side x side is the epitome of fine upland guns that all others are measured against. Channel your inner Brit, its the real deal, enjoy.
