Description:
General Specs: Sturm Ruger, Year 1964, .44 Mag, 6lb 1oz, LOP 13 1/2"
Serial Number: 80599

Presented here is a piece of Sturm, Ruger & Co history. In 1961 Ruger released the Model 44 Carbine, initially called the "Deerstalker", it was later known simply as the 44 carbine. A direct ancestor to the famous Ruger 10/22, whose lines can be seen in the carbine's profile, the 44 is highly regarded as lightweight and handy. Designed as a close range carbine for deer hunting in dense woods, the gun excelled with its internal tube magazine holding four rounds of .44 mag with the fifth in the chamber. Weighing around 6lbs and measuring just shy of 37" from muzzle to stock plate, Ruger carbines are notable for their dependability and durability.
This fine Ruger Model 44 is still showing all its original factory applied finishes, all metal parts apart from the bolt are factory blued and the bore has excellent rifling. The American Walnut stock shows nicely figured wood with some expected field and handling marks. It is tapped for a scope of your choice, but comes fitted with a sturdy front blade and rear flip sight.

The Ruger Carbine was in production for about 25 years and although very popular with over 250,000 made, the gun proved prohibitively expensive to manufacture due partly to the receiver being machined from a solid block of steel and incorporating a cam activated locking bolt.  Ruger finally stopped making the Model 44 in 1985. There is a finite amount of these wonderful carbines out there in the wild, most extensively used for their intended purpose so finding one such excellent condition is rare. This is a chance to add a piece of Ruger history to your collection.
