W & C Scott Excellencia, 12ga., SN41908. W & C Scott was a Birmingham based firm that specialized in fine doubles and made guns/parts for other sellers as well including London Best. The Excellencia Model was one of their premier products that they marketed largely overseas to develope their foreign market. On the action flats along with English proofs and their 1876 Patent, there are two USA patents dated 1878 and 1879, so this gun was probably earmarked for sale in the States. I was told it was professionally restored by a group of gunsmiths to benefit the family of a stocker to the gun trade who had passed away. They did a truly remarkable job. Every aspect of lock, stock and barrel bespeaks alot of TLC as should be clear from the photos. Barrels are 30" long and bright and shiny with very slight internal pitting. Bore diameters are about .706R and .702L or in the range of improved modified, wall thicknesses at muzzle are .050R amd .055L; chambers are 2.75"; LOP is 14" to a polished horn buttplate and drop at heel is 2.5". The Excellencia has a triple lockup that is like-new with a double underbite and third bbl-extension bite. Fancy wood,case colors, engraving, bbl brown and fine-point hand checkering are all excellent. Top of bbl is marked with an inlaid gold star, Scott address and "The Excellencia Triplex". The action is Scott's "Block-Safety Hammerlss" patent with "Crystal Cocking Indicators". Antique, $55 shipping.
