Description:
This is a bridle leather belt with brass keeper and lead-filled die-struck US oval plate. The leather is is in very good shape, still supple and pliable, with some areas of flaking along the edges, as well as some crazing along the flex points. Some further surface flaws are present on the exterior leather at the plate for about 5". The brass keeper is fastened by two rivets, and the brass has acquired a dull, yellow-ochre patina that carries over onto the belt plate. The cap box has heavily flaked exterior leather, but the belt loops are intact, and the interior fleece lining is in very good shape. The metal vent pick is still present as well. No maker or inspector marks are visible. This is a great Civil War belt ensemble, and would make a great addition to a collection.
