Description:
H. Ashton & Co. Model 1842 .54cal. military percussion pistol. This is a really good example of an attic-condition gun; never altered in any way or cleaned; I can't see any evidence it was ever taken apart. All the screws are in excellent condition with no marring of the heads or disturbance of the old patina surrounding them. Aged patina on brass; even rust-brown patina on most of the rest of the metal with some original finish on the lock but no pitting with the exception of the very end of the nipple which is still sound and functiional. About 90% of the original varnish is still intact with 2 clear crisp cartouches; short crack on left side of stock at lock screw. Small scratches and dents but wood and metal have well-defined edges; the gun is obviously aged but there is very little wear from use. Mechanically excellent. Lock marked "US H. ASHTON & CO MIDDTN CONN 1851", barrel dated 1851. Antique; shipping $25.
