Description: General Specs: Remington, Year 1878-1888, .38, 15.9oz Serial Number: ING31 This un-serialized .38 caliber centerfire Smoot #3 revolver is in exceptional condition showing almost all of its original nickel plating. It has a 3 ¾" octagonal barrel with E. Remington & Sons address and 1873 patent date. Between 1878 and 1888, Remington made over 25,000 examples of their No.3 revolver, but only about six thousand of the later saw-handled version were ever produced. For a gun that is over 130 years old it is in remarkable condition; its hard rubber grips are checkered and clean as new and even the niter blue grip screw retains its hue. The spur trigger is crisp and all mechanicals work as they should, the bore is in excellent shape with strong rifling still present. While the frame has no visible serial number, the gun has an I.D. most likely a rack number on its bottom strap- ING 31. A lot of the enjoyment of owning an item such as this is in researching its history, with these characters you would have enough for an enjoyable dive into history. Simply a gem of a gun, this Smoot #3 is in a condition almost as good as the day it was first espied in a store window and a true example of what civil-war era personal protection looked like.
