Description:
The Springfield Model 1866 is a breech-loading rifle manufactured by U.S. Armory in Springfield, Massachusetts. It is the second variation of the Allin-designed trapdoor breech-loading mechanism which converted rifle muskets to breechloaders. The Model 1866 fired a .50-70 Government cartridge with a 450-grain bullet and 70 grains of black powder. Approximately 25,000 of the Model 1866 were made. .50-70 Government
