SCARCE VARIATION MODEL 37 SINGLE BARREL SHOTGUN, .410 BORE/3" SHELL WITH 28" BARREL, MADE 1936-1963. This model was not serial numbered, but by the markings etc. it was made sometime between the 1950s and the end of production. Most of the production of this model was made in 12 ga. , 16 ga. and 20 ga. with very few made in 28 ga. (rare), and a relatively small number made in .410 bore. According to the WINCHESTER HANDBOOK by Madis, of the total production of 281,204 Model 37s made: 119,920 were 12 ga.; 65,700 were 16 ga.; 45,100 were 20 ga.; 2,815 were 28 ga.; and 39,800 were .410, BUT of these 24,498 had 26" barrels and only 15,302 had 28" barrels like this one- that comes out to just a little over 5% of total production. It seems most .410 M-37s saw hard use as farm/ranch guns as well as "truck guns." Finding one in top condition isn't easy especially with a 28" barrel. This one retains about all the blue, has a bright bore and aside from some very light and minor surface handling scratches is in excellent plus condition overall. All solid steel and walnut with the famed "STEELBILT" marking on the barrel. It would be hard to improve upon this one!
