S O L D .........LAYAWAY?.... SPRINGFIELD ARMORY CONVERSION OF A MODEL 1865 SPENCER CAVALRY CARBINE TO MODEL 1871, Infantry Rifle.
.50 rimfire. 32.5" barrel secured by two spring retained barrel bands. SN: 18862. Blued and color casehardened finish, walnut stock and forend. Top of receiver marked in four lines "SPENCER REPEATING RIFLE/PAT'D MARCH 6, 1860/MANUFD AT PROV. RI/BY BURNSIDE RIFLE CO." and "MODEL 1865" Spencer Burnside Musket conversion to an Indian War Military Musket using Spencer action using Springfield musket barrel with 3 grove rifling. On page 634 of Flayderman’s Guide they are described as .50 cal. It has a Stable Cutoff with two barrel bands and serial #18862 on the barrel breech. It also has 3 cartouches, one of which is an ESA cartouche. Crisply rifled bore with toned rainbow hues on the frame with blue in protected places on the barrel. Clear cartouche with a fine coating of linseed oil on the stock. Fine overall.
