Trip-Wire Operated Single Shot
Here we present an antique “DEPOSE” Trap Gun, made circa the late-19th Century. Trap guns could be used for man or animal. Many were chambered in small cartridges such as .22 and some only fired blanks to act more like an early warning system or simple alarm. However, this one was made for a 16 gauge pinfire shotshell, mostly in use in Europe in the second half of the 19th Century. The mechanism is utterly rudimentary, utilizing a spring-loaded hood that would have been attached to a trip-wire. The hood held back the hammer spur. Provisions for mounting screws are on the base. The rear of the base is marked “DEPOSE”
The overall condition is good+. The action remains strong. Smooth bore. Cannon-style barrel.
