Description:
***   SOLD  ***   Just in from Dickson’s Workshop in Scotland   ***   Handsome and svelte John Dickson & Son bar-action non-ejector hammergun just refurbished by the maker at their premises in the highlands of Scotland. Made in 1876 Dickson no. 3364 has rebounding hammers, classic scroll engraving, and the action is fitted with unusually large strikers. The gun has just left the Dickson workshop after a gentle renovation that included blacking the barrels, trigger guard, and toplever and coloring the pins. This highland beauty has other attractive features including a recessed Anson forearm release button and the action may be opened while the hammers are in the cocked position. The original damascus barrels were sleeved and London nitro proofed earlier this year and benefit from 2-3/4” chambers. Weight is 6lb 14oz. Comes with copies of the original order book entries.   ***   The 30” sleeved nitro steel barrels are chambered for 2-3/4” shotshells and are topped by a raised concave gamestyle rib. The rib is inscribed “John Dickson & Son 63. Princes Street. Edinburgh”. The right barrel is bored 0.726 with a constriction of 0.013 for Improved Cylinder choke. Minimum wall thickness is 0.035. The left barrel is bored 0.727 and has a constriction of 0.028 for Improved Modified choke. Minimum wall thickness is 0.035.   ***   The straight grip stock and splinter forearm are made of lightly figured European walnut and finished neatly with a slim horn heelplate. The stock and forearm have been cleaned, re-oiled, and the checkering refreshed. Stock dimensions are 14-1/16” to a thin heelplate by 1-5/8” by 2-1/4”. Cast off for the righthand shot.   ***   There is nothing so graceful in appearance and great handling as a bar-action hammergun from the 1870’s or 80’s. The action bodies were so trim because there was no need to make room for ejectors. And what could be better than a Dickson gun of this design? This handsome hammer double will not last long. ***  Please note that the photographs are part of the description. Not for sale where prohibited by state or local laws. Buyer is responsible for all shipping, insurance, and any other related charges. I give a 3-day non-firing inspection period, Returns at buyer’s expense.
