We normally ship USPS Priority Mail which should be 2-day ship. Shipping is actual cost with a minimum of $30.00 for pistols and $50.00 for rifles/shotguns to ship to most of the 48 contiguous states. Shipping to Alaska may require an extra fee. The concept of having one firearm that can be rechambered from one cartridge to another by simply swapping the barrel has always had an allure to it for many sportsman and the Thompson Center Contender certainly has its admirers. Another plus for the Contender is the large number of aftermarket accessories available. These include such things as spare barrels in a variety of lengths and contours, alternative furniture made of different types of wood or synthetic materials, and a large range of scopes and other optics. The example shown here is chambered for the classic .44 Remington Magnum. The .44 Magnum was created in 1955 and was an immediate success It was chambered in the Winchester Model 1894 lever action. While most commonly used for hunting deer, the .30-30 has its own following among the metallic silhouette crowd. If this does not shoot the owner’s fancy, there are many calibers available for the Contender from both the factory and aftermarket vendors. Such options include the .22 LR, .223 Rem, .22-250, .243 Winchester, .25-06 Rem, 6.5 Creedmoor, .270 Win, .280 Rem, 7mm-08, .30-06 Springfield, 308 Win, .300 Win Mag, .338 Win Mag, .35 Remington, .35 Whelen, .44 Magnum, .45-70 Gov’t and even the .460 and .500 S&W Magnum cartridges. This example is a Generation 1 Contender, meaning the action must be opened to re-cock if the hammer has been pulled back and then lowered. The pistol has seen some amount of use. There is a fairly long scratch on the lower left side of the barrel. The receiver exhibits 98 percent or better of its finish. There is some light finish wear on the side of the rib. The rubber fore end is a little loose towards the front even when the screw is tightened, i.e. it can be pulled downward a quarter of an inch or so. The bore is in excellent shape with no rust or pitting. The choke currently fitted is the shredder choke. This is intended for shooting .44 Magnum shotshell ammunition. The straight grooves are designed to shred the plastic cap that fits over the shotshell. With this type of choke fitted, only .44 shotshell ammunition can be fired. A regular choke must be used to fire the standard .44 Magnum ammo.
