Description:
CUT DOWN 5 3/8” Antique SMITH & WESSON No. 3 AMERICAN 1st Model Revolver

Single Action .44 S&W AMERICAN!

Here we present an antique Smith & Wesson No. 3 American Single Action Revolver manufactured circa 1872 with a production run between 1870 and 1877. This revolver looks like it has been there and done that. Its once 8-inch barrel has been cut to 5 3/8 inches and a new front sight installed. This could have been the shooter’s preference to have a shorter, handier, maybe even faster gun out of the holster. The left grip has a worn, old name on it. Later, someone put some Wells Fargo commemorative stamping on the right grip panel and the barrel’s underlug. This one’s been through the war, no doubt!

Smith & Wesson revolvers, then as now, are some of the finest in the world. Excellently machined, well-proportioned and accurate. It is no wonder why so many records of the era were set with this revolver. Notable shooters and owners of the original No. 3 include Buffalo Bill Cody, Ira Anson Paine, F.E. Bennett, Annie Oakley, Frank Butler, General George Custer and Theodore Roosevelt.

The overall condition is fair. The action (hammer/trigger) do function: the hammer holds the safety notch and the full-cock notch and the trigger lets them go. The cylinder does not revolve, and the star ejector does not have full travel outward. The bore is in good shape with strong rifling. A battleworn S&W that is surely a veteran of some wild times.

Own the original! This is a legitimate antique and not a reproduction.

Barrel is 5-3/8 inches.

Caliber: .44 S&W American
