We offer you a “RARE” Post WWI Gewehrfabrik Danzig 98 Mauser Sporter Bolt Action Rifle Chambered in 8x57 Mauser.
This model was made in a very small quantity shortly after WWI in the Danzig factory. Some were made for export as this one was which is evident by the “GERMANY” marking on the barrel in 1920. That makes this rifle right around 100 years old and still going strong. It wears a 24 inch barrel that has a very good bore. It is bright with light frosting areas near the muzzle. A part of the rear sight has been removed at some time when the Lyman receiver sight was installed. The bluing shows thinning and marks but overall is in fine condition. The receiver shows more wear and thinning in the finish and is in good condition as pictured. The stock is solid with no chips, cracks or repairs. A vintage Red Head pad gives an overall length of pull right at 12 ¾ inches. The left side of the barrel at the receiver is marked “GERMANY”. The right side is marked with the caliber “8X57” right above the 10 successful hunt notches as pictured. The left side of the receiver has an “Eagle Proof” followed by the serial number “5598”. That serial number is matching on the barrel, bolt and stock. The receiver is marked “Gewehrfabrik Danzig”. As pictured there was an adjustable “DAYTON TRAISTER CO. of PORTLAND ORE.” Trigger installed at some time that works fine. Our Gunsmith checked the headspace which is fine and it is a standard .323 diameter bore. The rifle functions as it should and would make a nice addition to any collection.
Many of our estate firearms have been stored for some time and a thorough cleaning and inspection is recommended.
This will be shipped fully insured UPS Ground to your FFL for $55. It will be shipped in a double walled foam lined cardboard box that we have manufactured for us so that your gun arrives safe.
