Description:
On Hold Sale Pending This is a original Model 1866 Springfield Trapdoor 50-70 caliber army rifle (also known as the second Allan). The 1866 was the first US army rifle chambered for the 50-70 caliber and used in the early Indian wars at the wagon box and hayfield battles.  The full 3 band walnut stock is in very good condition with scattered dents and light wear and a good cartouche.  The originaly bright metal has turned mostly brown over time.  The good bore show's good rifling.  The functioning  lock is correctly marked US Springfield with the American eagle and dated 1864.  The functioning breach block is marked 1866.  The gun is complete with cleaning rod and sling swivels and is in very good original condition.
