Smith Shotgun; Serial No.: 38909; Caliber: 20 Gauge 2-3/4" Chamber; 28" barrels with excellent bores. This custom left-hand L.C. Smith shotgun was made by John Gillette, Tinley Park, Illinois. John was a machinist, collector and shooter who eventually moved over to custom gunmaking and metal finishing at his shop, Classic Guns Inc, where he was best known for his vivid case-colors. Unfortunately John passed away on Mar 7, 2022. Being left-handed, John purchased plain field grade L.C. Smith and converted it to a custom deluxe left-hand shotgunfor himself. The right barrel is marked, " L.C. SMITH – 20 GA – FIELD – FULTON, N.Y. U.S.A. “. The barrel flats are marked: “ 38909 | FIELD 2 ¾ IN. CHAMBER “ and proof marks. John converted the top lever to swing in the opposite direction (to the left) for a left-handed shooter. He added a left side rolled edge triggerguard; a thickened, beaded edge on the side of a triggerguard bow. All of the metal was engraved by Robert Strosin and is marked on the lower tang near the triggers. Bob is a Certified Professional Member and past President in the Firearms Engravers Guild of America. John stocked the rifle himself. The length of pull from the rear trigger is approx. 13-3/8”. He used horn for the forend tip and also the heel and toe plates. The end of the buttstock is checkered. Doug Mann, American Custom Gunmakers Guild, did all the checkering. The stock on this rifle is in like-new condition. It is likely that this shotgun was never fired after completion. It is in excellent mechanical condition. The barrels are on face. The barrels are rust blued; the action has been case-colored; and the triggerguard looks to be carbona blued. Please see all of the photos. I am not a gunsmith or machinist. In fact, I am not an expert of anything. Please ask detailed questions. Price: $7,000 SOLD Shotgun Gauge: 20 Gauge Manufacturer: L.C. Smith Serial Number: 38909 Condition: Excellent |
