Bone's "Folding Hunter" was among the most expensive and most sought after custom-made knives, designed and produced, solely, at the time, by Ralph Bone at the Ralph Bone Knife Company. This offering presents an example of each of the three standard production "Folding Hunter" models, produced by Bone. All three of the subject "Folding Hunters" were made with brass bolsters and liners and Rosewood scales. The four-inch blade, double-bolster knife, Serial Number J215, the introductory cataloged model Folding Hunter model, was made in 1969-70, one of about only 285 "Folding Hunters" produced by Bone with double brass bolsters and liners. (Thereafter, Bone deleted the rear bolster on his folder to lighten the knife and make it better balanced. The three-inch blade knife, Serial Number J847 was made, probably, in late 1973, with a single brass bolster and Rosewood scales. The four-inch blade, single bolster knife, Serial Number J926 was made with Rosewood scales in late 1973 to early 1974 The 1974 catalog of the Ralph Bone Knife Company priced the Folding Hunter at $100 and $90, respectively, for the four inch and three inch blade Folding Hunters. At that time, the Classic and Mexican Bowie knives were listed at $160. By comparison, the Models A & B hunting knives were priced at $75 and $65, respectively. Other standard production hunting knives were priced between $30 and $40 each, at the time. All three "Folding Hunters”, offered here, were produced with brass bolsters and liners, Rosewood scales and carbon steel blades. This offering includes one each leather four inch and three inch Folding Sheath, both produced by Johnson Leather Company of Casselberry, FL, the sole sheath maker for the Ralph Bone Knife Company at the time.
