Description:
HIGH CONDITION AND SCARCE SAVAGE MODEL G .30-30 WITH 22" LIGHTWEIGHT BARREL, TAKEDOWN, PISTOL GRIP, CHECKERED, #340XXX, WITH FACTORY LETTER SHOWING SHIPMENT DURING THE EARLY YEARS OF THE GREAT DEPRESSION IN 1931. The letter, issued by the Cody Firearms Museum that now includes Savage serial numbers, shows this one listed by caliber and "G" model was shipped to G. Worthington Company. This company was a major distributor of hardware etc. in Cleveland, Ohio that goes back to 1829. A copy of info on this company as well as the Cody letter included. This rifle shows most of the vivid case colors on the lever and even retains some of the protective lacquer finish over the case colors. The receiver also retains fine blue with only some thinning on the bottom. The barrel shows fine deep blue with some light handling only. Buckhorn rear sight with ramped blade/bead front sight plus correct Lyman tang sight made for this rifle. Excellent stock (with no cracks in the upper wrist area!) and forearm with sharp checkering, correct steel pistol grip cap, Savage logo steel butt plate and tight takedown. Strong spring in the brass rotary magazine and minty bright bore. Scarce caliber as most during this time were made in .300 Savage and .250 Savage calibers. Not many of these were made during the Great Depression years and because of this extra time could be spent on each rifle making them the highest quality put together by the best workmen who were retained by Savage during these slow and difficult economic times. Great example of a rifle too expensive to produce today.
