Description:
Belgium Copy of a Smith & Wesson Double Action Frontier Model. It is marked on the top of the barrel "FOR 44 WINCHESTER CARTRIDGE". That identifies it as a .44-40 Winchester Caliber. The only other markings are a few Belgium proof marks here and there.  The barrel measures 5 5/8 inches and has a very clean shinny shoot-able bore with strong sharp rifling. That bore is a SURPRISE considering the exterior has a grey evenly pitted surface. This is a top-break, auto-eject, double action six shot revolver based on the S&W Patent Style. The double action functions perfectly, and lock up when in battery as it should. The single action also works perfectly. It is Shown here with an original antique holster and belt (A PERFECT OUTFIT TO DISPLAY THIS PISTOLA WITH). The vintage holster is a very colorful rig with 5 star conchos and has had the trigger guard area cut out to allow quick access. That's ideal for the large guard on this S&W Copy  . The belt also comes with large loops to accomidate the .44-40 cartridge. The Belt maker is unknown. The main feature of this gun, is the fact that some bunkhouse cowboy artist made a pair of steer bone grips for it. They are in very good condition with no cracks or chips and are worth $400 on their own.  This would make an interesting addition to any Smith & Wesson collection to show the period patent infringements of the day, c1870's.  It is a piece of history that you can now own at reasonable price.   You can find these advertised in the Sears & Roebuck and Montgomery catalogs of the 1880s.
Jim's .44 Rounds are NOT included
