Description:
Classic Austrian Drilling; 16ga/35 Winchester, fine condition; SN2235. I can't find a maker name but this gun has a myriad of proofs, including Nitro and what I believe to be Austrian proofs, and all the features of a hi-quality Continental Drilling made by a master or possibly a Guild gun? Fine condition overall with 65% barrel blue thinning at the edges and above forearm, excellent rifle and shotgun bores and chambers; mechanically excellent in all respects, locks up tight, no rust or pitting. Features include nice wood, a scalloped, clipped-fence and engraved boxlock receiver with 30% case color, remainder silvering, Greener crossbolt and wrist-safety, selective firing with silver cocking indicators for all three barrels and pop-up rear rifle sight, hand checkering and horn grip-cap and buttplate. Barrels are 27" and chambers are 2 1/2". There is a hairline crack at the toe of the buttstock and horn buttplate that have been nicely repaired and are sound. The engraving on this gun desrves special mention for its grace and beauty, an Art Nouveau style and 3D depth to the game scenes. Drillings represent an apex in the gunmaker's craft and this is a particularly graceful, fine-featured gun different from alot of the heavier German drillings. Note: 35 Win rd. shown next to 8x57 Mauser for comparison. Dealer or C&R FFL; $65 shipping.
