Description:
Untouched Remington Model 1890 Revolver in 44 Winchester Center Fire aka 44-40. This one was found in a barn in Chickasha, Oklahoma which is on the edge of the Chickasaw Indian Reservation and not far from Oklahoma City.  The Department of Interior was known for purchasing Model 1875 Remingtons along with the Remington Keene Rifle for their Reservation Police Forces and perhaps their presence in these areas gave Remington somewhat of a market for them and the improved Model 1890.  The 1890 was an attempt to streamline the 1875 by reducing theon the ejector housing to give it an appearance more like a Colt Single Action.  They even changed the wood grips to checkered hard rubber with their logo at the top to mimic Colt and Smith and Wesson.  Only 2000 1890's were ever made and these do not turn up very often as Remington soon got out of the Revolver business altogether.  For the short time they were sold, they were offered with 5 3/4" and 7 1/2" barrels in blued or nickel plated finish.   This one is what some collectors call a "dirty nickel gun" as the original nickel plate has worn and flaked in spots causing the steel underneath to turn a dark patina.  Most collectors will polish these out to give the gun a more uniform look (they can make more money that way) but a number of collectors really love the contrast between the patina and the aged nickel and reality is that this is quite often what untouched barn/attic finds often look like.  If you like dirty nickel, then this one is a piece of art because it's definitely got it but still has 70% original nickel remaining. Very Good Screws. This is the short barrel version that measures 5 3/4".  The hard rubber grips are in very good shape for a cowboy gun as they're not cracks and the checkering and Remington Logos are still sharp.  There are a couple of minor chips on the base of each panel at the guide pins and there appears to a ranch brand symbol at the bottom of each panel as well which is basically an "E" that is underlined.  The only thing missing on this gun is the lanyard ring on the bottomstrap which was filed off during its working life leaving part of the shaft that held the ring still down in the hole.   Action is in nice working order and the bore is surprisingly good.  Original front sight is still intact and hasn't been shaved down.  Nice Remington Address on the top of the barrel and left side of frame is stamped in small letters 44 C.F.W.  (44 Center Fire Winchester).  These were often paired with a Winchester 1873, 1892, Marlin 1889, 1894, or a Whitney Kennedy rifle or carbine as these shared the same cartridge.  Antique, Pre-1898.  No FFL required under Federal Law but we cannot ship this as an antique to NY State, NYC, DC, Chicago, HI, or anywhere a local or state uses a stricter definition in their law that defines this weapon as modern.  Sorry, no international sales.  Buyer must be 21 years of age and legal to own a firearm.  $25 shipping.  Nice opportunity to pick up a real 19th century "Forty Four"  from the American West at a reasonable price.
