Description: Scarce and desirable Winchester Model 1894 rifle, first model with the famed "10 O'clock screws" that enter the receiver from the outside to hold the cartridge guides. This was the original John Browning design that Winchester quickly changed over to an internal screw for strength. Approximately 5,000 of this first variation exist. This one is a standard rifle in all respects, having a 26" octagon barrel, full magazine, plain trigger, plain walnut stocks, crescent-shaped rifle butt, open sights, blued and case hardened finish, bearing serial number 3553, caliber 38-55. I have the Cody Museum email sheet, which will be provided to the buyer, confirming the configuration and showing the serial number was applied February 28, 1895, was received in the warehouse on March 12, 1895, and was shipped July 15, 1895 to order number 13473. CONDITION: Fore end cap, lever, hammer and butt plate have turned a mix of silver and patina with no case colors remaining. The barrel, magazine tube and receiver show 10% coverage of the original bluing that has turned patina. Stocks have no splits or cracks and no extra holes, exhibiting typical nicks/dings/scuffs/scratches expected of a 120+ year old rifle that was used, as many were, as a tool/meat gatherer. Bore is good with intact and consistent rifling, typical scattered black powder light pitting, about a 7 of 10 and might clean better. Action and half cock safety operate as designed. Rifle was test fired for function and does feed/fire/eject with no issues. Original front sights are intact and all markings are clear. Overall grades NRA Antique Good and, due to its configuration, will surely increase in value over time as a collector's item. TERMS: Shipping to the Continental US States will be a flat $50 with insurance optional and additional if requested. We are registered with the CA DOJ and will ship to California!
