TRULY UNCLEANED (LITERALLY), ATTIC/BARN CONDITION CIVIL WAR SHARPS NEW MODEL 1863 UNALTERED .52 CALIBER PERCUSSION SADDLE RING CARBINE, #C7XX. This one must have been put away and left for about a hundred or more years as it is coated with a surface film of brown rust that is more "on" the metal than "in" the metal. Still has the Lawrence folding ladder rear sight and saddle ring and bar as well as the lever catch. The action works fine and is tight. The bore isn't going to be perfect, but shows good rifling all the way through and should clean up decently. I did run a n oily patch through it which came out light brown. A good scrubbing will improve it. the stock is solid with tight wood to metal fit. The forend has an age crack coming from the receiver on the lower left side to the barrel band that can be pushed together for an easy repair. Both stock and forend are very dark from a century of grime. I have purposely done nothing to this carbine except run a patch down the bore. Whoever buys this one can do the proper cleaning to reveal a pretty nice unaltered carbine. There will be some light pitting on the barrel and butt plate, but a good soaking in oil will be a good start!
