Description:
This is an original Civil War Confederate Lieutenants Gray Wool Shako in untouched condition. The Shako is ID’ed to Lt. John H. Lee. The stiffened wool body measures 7-3/4" x 6-1/2" (less the visor), with 6-1/2" rise in rear and 4" rise to front.  The black leather crown band is missing a 3-1/2” section and there is no leather chinstrap. The two side buttons are of the South Carolina Start Seat with a Palmetto Tree and S.C. The back of the buttons are stamped VAN WART SON & CO.  which manufactured buttons in England for the Confederacy.   The shako has a bound painted pasteboard brim. The cloth liner is intact and in very good condition and sweatband is also intact.
