Description:
This is one of Smith & Wesson’s more interesting models. The 60 was intended to allow the shooter to have a revolver that had far better resistance to rust and wear than the original carbon-steel Model 36, much like the 629 is to the Model 29 or the 627 to the 27. This example is a little strange. The inside of the frame is marked “Mod. 60”. According to the gun’s serial number and the Standard Catalog of Smith & Wesson, 4th Edition, it was made in 1984. Product code according to the box is 102302. Features normally included are a 2-inch barrel, round butt, .312-inch smooth combat trigger, and a .240-inch service hammer. This one is in good shape but has seen a little bit of use. The cylinder face has some powder burns although the bore is fairly clean. There are minor wear marks in the finish on the barrel, cylinder, and frame. None of these are deep. Pachmayr rubber grips have been substituted for the originals. The original box is present (it is also labeled “Mod. 60”) as well as the original Magna style wood grips. One noteworthy aspect of this firearm is that, unlike later S&W models, this one has no trigger lock. This is a desirable feature of the older S&W revolvers and the expression “pre-lock” is a common denotation of this feature. There is no manual.
