Description:
Authentic custom built Hawken rifle.  This Hawken was made of a curly maple stock blank, with an attractive stripe and mounted with traditional iron furniture  throughout.  The hand inlet work on all furniture and the barrel is near perfect.  The barrel  is elegantly engraved with the name "E R LANGE" on the left flat. When I bought this rifle I did not get a lot of details, other than the fact the man I bought it from was the maker and it was his name on the barrel. It has perfectly browned smooth hardware and lock which is marked GTC that is "Griffith Tool Co.". The double set triggers and all parts work as they should.  The triggers were made by "LONG" the famous lock maker, Ron Long of Denver, each trigger bears his (D) touch-mark. This double lever trigger has the required backlash to allow the lock to be cocked and fired, while the trigger is set or unset.  Period correct rust browned 1"x 33" octagon barrel has a bright bore with 8 grooves and lands. The maker told me it is a Sharon barrel. The bore is .54 caliber, 1 in 65 twist. A museum quality rifle that is also suitable for hunting and target shooting. This rifle required many hours of hand labor.  A true bargain made by a talented rifle smith from top quality parts. This original piece of the rifle makers art has been used but has been very well maintained. LOP 14 1/2 inches. Weight is just over 9 pounds.
