Description:
Quatsino Kwakwaka’wakw totem pole in the style of George Nelson. This larger model pole is carved in the style of Quatsino master carver George Nelson, particularly the bottom bear figure holding the salmon. The pole is unpainted and carved in yellow cedar. It depicts a thunderbird with spread wings over an inverted whale and a bear holding a salmon. Although this pole is not by Nelson, his strong influence on this carver likely means the pole was made by someone who knew Nelson and was based in Quatsino, BC, themselves. The crisp carving on this pole is highlighted by the unpainted surface and displays very well. 21"H x 13"W
