(Christopher George) Bonehill, Birmingham, England: A nice English Pre-WW II Boxlock Ejector 12 Bore Game Gun with an absolute as new set of barrels installed & proved in Birmingham in 1971 with 2 1/2" chambers, 27" Ejector Dovetail Lump Barrels with a dolls head third bite extension, The versatile Anson & Deeley action, Original 1971 Birmingham Proof at 3 tons & 2 1/2" chambers, The bores at .731 .005 & .025" (Skt.I. & Imp.Mod.), 2 1/2" chambers, Wall thickness at .027" on both barrels, Double triggers, Splinter forend with an Anson release, Straight hand stock at 14 3/4 x 1 5/8 x 2 5/8" over a buttplate, Neutral stock, Game gun weight of 6 lbs. 6 oz., Very nice wood, 90% engraving coverage, No case colors remain, Barrel blue at 99%, The wood remains at 96%, The checkering is at 90%, The bores are absolute excellent plus condition and as new with the correct & original bore size, The barrels outside are excellent plus, The barrels ring with a great chime, It is tight on the face with excellent bite left. This is an honest and nice handling late Pre-War British boxlock that remains in very nice condition. This piece has a lot of life left in it.
C. G. Bonehill started his apprenticeship at a very young age and went on his own at the age of 20 in 1851. He got involved with military contracts early on and because of this he was advanced with good machine tooling for the period. He was a Guardian of the Birmingham Proof House for 28 years. He held 7 patents, most of them in the late 1880's. He passed away in 1920 and his son A. M. Bonehill continued the firm. It remained a viable business until 1962.
