This Providence Tool Company Model 1861 U.S. percussion rifle-musket is in fine condition. The 40"" round 58 caliber barrel has an excellent bore. The cleaned metal is all bright. The stock, which has had finish added, is fine with sharp edges, light storage and use dents and dings, and no chips or cracks. The left flat is stamped N.J (New Jersey). The barrel date of 1863 is light. The barrel also has a partial V over P over eagle proofs and small ECR inspectors marks. The lock markings are partially obscured from cleaning. The markings are the eagle with U and S on either side over PROVIDENCE TOOL Co. over PROVIDENCDE RI. The lock tail is dated 1863. The action functions properly. This is a very nice Providence Tool Company Model 1861 musket.
