BUY NOW BEFORE PRICE INCREASE. Double heat treatment started on Rock Island Receivers at serial number 285507 and nickel steel receivers started at serial number 319921. So this is a “safe to shoot” nickel steel receiver. As I understand it, Rock Island stopped producing finished rifles at about receiver serial number 376,xxx. Apparently a large number of RIA receivers after that were sent to Springfield Arsenal to complete into finished rifles. Receiver number 398186 was probably produced in late 2019 or early 2020 and shipped to Springfield Arsenal. The 1918 SA barrel date would be consistent with this timing and probably is the original barrel on this gun. There are no marks on the stock, but stock appears to be USGI. Stock is in very good condition. I sent an inquiry to the Rock Island Arsenal Museum and their response is included in with the attached files. Apparently Springfield produced a finished rifle in 1920, but stock was changed in 1942/1943. I have fired the rifle both in single shot mode with internal magazine "off" and also with internal magazine "on" and loaded from a Mauser charging clip. Several Mauser charging clips will be included with the rifle, and I also have the original 48S Receiver Sight which I will sell with the rifle for extra. $75 shipping and insurance to US except Alaska and Hawaii.
