Most double gun enthusiasts are aware of the reputation earned by the Winchester Model 21; a gun of superior strength.  Model 21 guns can shoot the most powerful loads, SO IF YOU LIKE MAGNUM LOADS FOR PHEASANTS, DUCKS, OR OTHER TOUGH GAME, THIS IS YOUR GUN.  From 1930 to 1980 they made about 2900 twenty-gauge guns in all grades, most of them Standard Grade and Skeet Grade guns, so they are not “RARE” guns.  So how do you know which Model 21 to buy?  For the upland bird hunter, the quest is for a LIGHTWEIGHT GUN WITH LONGER BARRELS AND CHOKES MEANT FOR THE FIELD.  For those looking for an investment that will gain value as you enjoy its use, condition and special features are important.  THIS M21 HAS THE CHARACTERISTICS THAT MAKE IT AN EASY CHOICE AMONGST THE OTHER AVAILABLE OFFERINGS.  Most Model 21 twenty-gauge guns are on the heavy side, weighing from 6 3/4lbs. to 7lbs., and have 26” barrels with skeet chokes, and fat beavertail forends.  This M21 TOURNAMENT GRADE, sn9322 BUILT IN 1935, weighs in at a scant 6lbs. 6oz. with 28” barrels factory choked Modified and Full.  It is also equipped with a splinter forend that most upland hunters prefer in the field, another hard-to-find feature on a Model 21.  It has FACTORY DOCUMENTED Winchester #1 engraving, a rare find on any Model 21.  Most engraved M21 guns you see are not factory engraved even if they are represented as such.  The only way to be sure is with factory records that document the engraving.  This gun is fully documented by a Cody Firearms Museum Factory letter and the gun still matches the letter to the “T”.  Even the perfect screws are nicely engraved.  Fully restored to historically correct factory new condition retaining all original factory parts, this M21 is gorgeous.  The barrels have tight ribs with crisp stampings and rib matting, mirror bores, and fit tight on the hinge pin and breech face with the top lever right of center.  The action engraving is clear and sharp with no signs of wear, the single selective trigger is crisp, and the ejectors are strong and timed. THIS IS A VFI CERTIFIED GUN, THE ACTION AND FOREND IRON HAVING BEEN STRIPPED TO THE SMALLEST PART, ULTRASONIC CLEANED, ALL PARTS SCRUBBED TO BARE METAL, INSPECTED FOR FUNCTION AND INTEGRITY, LUBRICATED AND REASSEMBLED, CARRYING A 90-DAY MECHANICAL WARRANTY (this is a $375 service in our shop), everything in perfect working order. The wood is nicely figured, with the special TOURNAMENT GRADE fine checkering on buttstock and forend and fits the metal to perfection.  The modern stock dimensions are noted in the tables below, as are the barrel specifications and other details.  The TOURNAMENT GRADE WAS CUSTOM ORDER ONLY IN 1931, AND CATALOGUED FOR ONLY TWO YEARS, BEING DROPPED FROM THE WINCHESTER LINEUP AFTER 1934.  VERY FEW WERE EVER MADE IN 20GA., AND ONLY A TINY HANDFUL ENGRAVED AT THE FACTORY.  THE RARITY OF THE GRADE, ENGRAVING, SUPER LIGHT WEIGHT, AND 28” M/F BARRELS MAKES THIS A ONCE IN A LIFETIME OPPORTUNITY TO OWN SUCH A SPECIAL MODEL 21.  The restoration is well done, all clean inside and out, and you don’t have to wait to have any work done to enjoy this 87-year-old upland gun.  This is a rare opportunity to own a factory engraved Winchester Model 21 that is light and balanced, ready for your favorite shotgun sports.  Thanks for looking!
