It is a 12 ga boxlock gun with 30” Damascus barrels and Westly Richards type rib extension for lock up. It is a very well-made gun and retains over 90% original finish including about 80% case colors. Forehand , and its predecessor Forehand & Wordsworth, were well known makers of revolvers known as Bull Dogs. The Shotguns are very rarely encountered. This one is higher grade with some nice engraving and good wood. The grade “1” is marked on action flat. At least one higher grade was made as well as lower grades 0 and 00. In order to dismount the barrels one must push forward on button on the bottom of the action. Reduced from $1250 The Forehand Model 1890 was made on the Nov. 2,1890 patent by Martin Bye. It is of an unusual design. This maker has an interesting background. It finds its origin when Ethan Allen set up a pistol shop in 1871. The company passed thorough several generations and name changes: Ethan Allen, E. Allen & company, Allen & Wheelock, Forehand & Wordsworth, and Forehand. Forehand ceased production in 1898 on Forehand’s death.
