Description: The Ruger Super Redhawk revolver was introduced in 1987 as a replacement for Ruger’s Redhawk double action revolver. Its design featured a reinforced and enlarged GP100 frame, and like most Ruger revolvers, a longer cylinder than most competitors, allowing hand loaders to use hot loaded .44 Magnum rounds. Loaders could either use a heavier powder charge or heavier, and therefore longer, bullet without compromising the powder load or bullet weight, or combination thereof. Like the GP100 and Redhawk, the Super Redhawk used a latch in the crane, to firmly lock the cylinder at front and rear, providing a strong lock-up. The Super Redhawk has since become popular among hunters and trappers as hunting pistol. However, one variant, the Alaskan, has become famous as a bear defense gun. Instead of the longer 7.5” barrel found on the standard Super Redhawk, the Alaskan has a much shorter 2.5 inch barrel with a ramp front sight and adjustable rear sights. The grip is a Hogue® Tamer™ Monogrip® for better control during firing. The finish is a satin stainless for resistance to the elements. This new in the box (2022 production) revolver comes with a very nice Ruger hard case. If you are looking for a nice, big-bore defense gun for use against large 4-legged predators, the Super Redhawk Alaskan is a fine choice. As a side note, any revolver chambered for the .44 Magnum will also shoot the .44 Special and .44 S&W Russian cartridges. This is helpful for practice shooting.
