This is an original Charleville model 1776. It is a 69 caliber smooth bore flintlock musket. These were produced by the French and sent to aid the Americans in The Revolutionary War. This example has a 44 ¾” barrel and “D Star” proof mark. This musket is in good condition with a dark patina throughout the metal finish. The wood is dark and oil soaked and fully intact. The bore is uniformly pitted, but still is smooth enough to fire. We installed a new flint, snapped the trigger, and got nice spark. It is missing the sling swivels.
Charleville is embossed on the right side of the lock plate. The “D Star” is still visible on the upper right corner of the lock plate as well.
