It is 69 caliber and has a 42” barrel. It has a “VP” proof mark on the barrel near the lock. The "Z" cartouche in front of the trigger guard indicates Confederate Army history (Cap't. Zimmerman at Richmond). The left side locking plate as well as the strap of metal behind the trigger have “L” proof marks. There is an “M” proof mark on the bottom of the trigger guard. The butt plate has ”US” stamped on it. This musket is Mexican/American War vintage as well as Civil War.. The metal has no finish on it and the barrel itself is uniformly pitted. The wood is completely intact and looks very nice. The bore has pitting but is still smooth. The hammer locks back tight and has plenty of force to set off a cap and the nipple is clean and clear. This musket appears to be in shootable. Ready for re-enactments or a Civil War collection. SOLD Antique: Yes Manufacturer: Springfield Model: 1842 |
