British 10 Gauge side-by-side shotgun made for and imported by Willian R. Schaefer, Boston. Schaefer was active in the firearms business from 1853 to 1916 dealing in percussion and cartridge firearms. We have owned several Schaefer marked quality shotguns over many years and found his choice of firearms to be of very good quality. This English example fits Schaefer's requirements. These 10 Gauge nitro proofed barrels are 28 inches in length with chokes modified and bores are mirror bright with little or no evidence of use. The water table is marked ""10 Ga, BNP"" (British nitro Proof) 3 1/2 ton per square inch. In our opinion, the barrels are Damascus and have been proved with British modern heavy loads. Never the less, we are selling this fine shotgun with the advice to not shoot modern high pressure loads, but rather use black powder or reduced pressure Pyrodex or similar reduced pressure powder. Length of pull is 14 inches. Barrels show 99% original Damascus pattern. Frame has tight scroll engraving and cameo scenes of wildfowl. The stocks are of beautiful French walnut with excellent checkering. We have no information on the maker of this very fine shotgun.
