This is a handsome gun that has the post 1891 and 1899 Ferlach proofs. The barrels have retained 90-95% of the original blue with some fading to mellow plum-brown, and a few areas of silvering, especially at the muzzles and along the raised central rib. The frame has muted color case-hardening on a few protected areas, but otherwise has a mottled pewter gray and brown patina with streaks of old protective grease. The gun is fitted with a doll’s head fastener, two-leaf rear barrel sight, and an integrated flip-up aperture sight on the top tang. The checkered splinter forend, and pistol-grip buttstock with Continental cheek-piece, are in fine shape, with a few minor handling marks scattered about the original finish, and very little flattening of the points. The buttstock has a LOP of 13 1/4", with drops of 1 1/8" and 2 1/2" respectively. The barrels are on-face, and the locks are fully functional. Josef Siegel operated in Salzberg, Austria from 1889 to 1933, fourth in a series of gunmakers by that name. This is a splendid example of his work, and is in fine-near excellent condition overall.
