We offer you a “Collector Grade” Steyr Mannlicher Schoenauer Model 72 – 72S Bolt Action Rifle Chambered in 7mm Rem Mag made in 1976.
Steyr introduced the model 72 in 1972 and discontinued production in 1979. Very few of these rifles made it into the states in the three different models; L/M (Medium), S (“Strong” Magnum), and S/T (“Strong” Tropical). Which makes this rifle a rare find especially in the high condition it is in. The left side of the barrel is marked STEYR GRAND RAPIDS, MI. 7mm Rem. Mag”. The left outer edge of the receiver is marked “MANNLICHER SCHONAUER M72 / MADE IN AUSTRIA”. The right rear of the receiver under the wing safety lever is marked “8328”, the other side has a German Eagle proof, an “NPv” proof and a “76” date code. The underside of the bolt handle is marked with the last two digits of the serial number “28”. Followed by the matching number 75”, “NPv”, with an Eagle proof”. The left side of the barrel in front of the rear sight is marked “CNORM M3170 STLF3” (steel type/batch code). The bottom rear of the magazine floor plate is marked with a Steyr logo. The front sight is a brass beaded blade that is dovetailed into a finely checkered ramped base. The rear sight is a flat topped square notch dovetail set into a tall base on the barrel. The Walnut stock has a very fine satin finish with a contrasting Rosewood tip and cap. The grip shows a white spacer and an inset white diamond. The L.O.P. over the factory vented recoil pad with a Steyr logo is 13 5/8 inches. It still retains the factory unique sling swivels as shown.
The 25 ½ inch factory barrel has an excellent bore with no issues. The internal rotary magazine holds four rounds and the factory trigger is adjustable. On top it wears the desirable Buhler scope rings and bases with a vintage Leupold 3-9X40mm VARI-X II scope mounted in them. It has a tapered crosshair reticule with optics that are clear and it wears a set of old school Uncle Mike’s lens covers.
Overall condition of the rifle is excellent (PLUS). The metal shows a few very, very minor surface marks that are hard to find as does the stock.
This will be shipped fully insured UPS Ground to your FFL for $75. It will be shipped in a foam lined double walled cardboard box that we have manufactured for us so that your gun arrives safe.
